Each month, the italian most popular antique fair of Arezzo

will be held in the historical Piazza Grande and adjacent streets

Antique furniture, craft works, design, pottery, porcelain, jewels, books and prints, fossils, carpets, craftsmanship, glass, textiles, clocks, sculptures, paintings, objects made of iron or copper, as well as trinkets and curiosities of every kind!

The Antique Fair in Arezzo on the first Sunday of each month and the previous Saturday. DON'T MISS IT!

Calendar 2011 and info available at: http://www.arezzofieraantiquaria.org/

Born in 1968 and planned by the antique dealer and collector Ivan Bruschi (whose house, precious collection's case, is now a museum), the Antiquarian Fair of Arezzo has been the first antiquarian manifestation having a regular monthly cadence and a lasting success over the time. A success favoured by the knowledge, the solicitations, and the dedication of its deviser. It immediately was news, as shows the newsreel "Radar", which was filmed in the third edition of the Fair. During the days of the Fair, Piazza Grande, which is a very particular square with its irregular and inclined surface, (encircled by patrician towers and palaces, dominated by the austere mass of the roman Church, and bounded by the Loggias drawn by Vasari), becomes a market full of stalls, antiques, collectors, curious, and obviously of tourists. The courtyards of the palaces and the Loggias are full of visitors. Shops grow busier and the stalls, full of any kind of objects, invade streets and lanes, villages and squares of the entire historical complex, changing the aspect of the town.
The regular expositors are more than 500 and comefrom every part of Italy offering with their object a wide view of cultural traditions and regional costumes. Moreover, thanks to the success of the opened exposition, the shops of the restorers and of the antique dealers have grown up. Nowadays in Arezzo there are more than 100 antiquarian shops, a number that during thirty years of fair has duplicated, in fact in 1968 there were not more than fifteen antiquarian shops!
In many cases the shops reflect the same heterogeneity that we find in the fair: furniture, drawings and object, all different both for their époque and for their quality are muddled giving to the visitor the pleasure of their discovery.
By the shops of searchers and pickers there are many shops with selected objects that offer more marked specialization for collectors and connoisseurs: furniture and furnishings, still life, religious pictures, drawings of any époque, jewels, watches, silvers, old books and printings, modern antique collecting, scientific instruments, radius and gramophones, musical instruments, toys.
From the edition of October 2001, we are planning a new project of promotion and communication to make the fair more stimulating and the stay in Arezzo more pleasant, thanks to the contribution of some events, planned to attract an always new and cultured public.
Every first Sunday of the month and the previous Saturday there are more than 20.000 (there were even more than 30.000!) people who come in Arezzo only to visit the antiquarian fair.
The hunt for the valuable object or for the missing piece of a collection begins even before the opening of the fair, when the goods is still packed in the trucks, and it ends on Sunday at sunset after many negotiations.
As the American writer Frances Mayes shows in her book "Beautiful Tuscany", we can affirm that in every house in Arezzo and in many other Italian towns there is an object, a picture or a piece of furniture which has been found and bought in Arezzo Antiquarian Fair, the most old and bigger Italian antiquarian fair. Fontanaro has a new friendship...with Trasimeno Music Festival

Fontanaro has a new friendship: the Trasimeno Music Festival 2011.

The 2011 edition will take place from the 2nd to the 8th of July.

As preview, If you like, have a look on http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IWE1OMsXXzs
We can already book for you in advance even if tickets will be officially available only from May.

The Trasimeno Music Festival Association was formed by the happy fruition of
two beautiful but originally distant things: on one side the
world-renowned Canadian pianist Angela Hewitt, and on the other, the
Umbrian town of Magione, on the shores of Lake Trasimeno. When Angela,
regarded as one of the greatest living interpreters of the music of J.S.
Bach, first discovered this area of great natural beauty, she fell in love
with it immediately. Then, with her unique blend of charm and passion, she
decided to bring her music to the region in the form of an annual music
festival. For a week each summer, she presents concerts in the magical
atmosphere of the Castle of the Knights of Malta in Magione using
international artists of the highest level. To accomplish this, and thanks
to the interest and passion of local friends and collaborators, the
Trasimeno Music Festival Association was formed.

This summer festival, which has grown to also include concerts in Perugia
and Gubbio, will be presented for the seventh time in 2011.

With this happy union between local and international elements, the life of
the Association is diverging into a more widespread activity, with
lecture-demonstrations held in schools, discussions with authors who write
about music in their work, masterclasses with young pianists, and Friends
Associations being formed around the world - a reflection of the worldwide
attention that characterizes both Angela Hewitt and the festival.

On this website, to which we welcome you, you may find all the information
on the initiatives of the Trasimeno Music Festival Association. We look
forward to welcoming you to a concert or another event with Angela Hewitt.

regia Armando Pugliese

musiche di scena Nicola Piovani

scene Andrea Taddei costumi Silvia Polidori

Art at the Olive oil Musuem by Lungarotti - Passalacqua sbarca al Museo dell'Olio della Fam. Lungarotti

FONDAZIONE LUNGAROTTI, Museo dell'Olivo e dell'Olio

“Dedicato.

In English:

Up to the 23th of January the art of Passalacqua at the Olive Oil Museum in Torgiano, don't miss it.

Info about the Museum, opened all the year:

Created as a companion collection to the Wine Museum, the Olive and Oil Museum is located in a small nucleus of medieval houses within the town walls.

The museum covers ten rooms and opens with information provided by the National Research Council on the botanic characteristics of olive trees, the most common cultivars in Umbria, traditional and avant-garde techniques for cultivating and extracting the oil. The subsequent rooms, that were once the home of an oil mill active until a few decades ago and graced with a large fireplace, have a rich documentation regarding the history and evolution of olive oil equipment: from the first stone mortars of the 5th millennium B.C: across the centuries to the introduction of the trapetum, the large vat of probable Greek origin adopted by the Romans, up to the most complex machines using animal or hydraulic traction, to the invention of the continuous cycle which heralded the new olive oil technology. The museum continues on the two upper floors showing the presence of oil and the olive tree in daily life, as well as the use and value attributed to them over time. These themes are documented in sections regarding the mythological origin of the plant, the use of oil as a source of light, in the rituals of the great monotheistic western religions, in medicine, in nutrition, in sports, in cosmetics, as a source of heat and as a significant element in popular imagery which has attributed and in part still attributes, symbolic, propitiatory, apotropaic and curative values to the plant and to the product of its fruit. Room V, dedicated to Athena, the goddess who reputedly gave the gift of the olive tree to man, displays, alongside various objects that recall the goddess's attributes, a precious Attic alábastron in red-figure pottery, signed by the Foundry Painter and dating to the 5th cent. B.C. The vase, of extraordinary interest due to the artist's craftsmanship, depicts Athena in the act of receiving the shield with an owl design (her primary emblem) from the hands of the ironsmith who crafted it for her. In front of the alabastron, there is a trilobate oil lamp from the 7th cent. B.C., a superb example of Dedalic art representing the remote use of votive oil lamps, alongside a scientific text by Mario Torelli. The collection of oil lamps, ranging from the pre-classic period to late neoclassicism, has some noteworthy examples: from the Roman bilobate bronze lamp, damasked in silver and copper, to the small bronze Renaissance putto, to the two precious staircase lamps from the 16th century. Interesting due to their techniques and styles, indicative of a taste for the myths of antiquity and exoticism , the group of neoclassic includes display lamps including the "fiorentina" lamp in Murano glass to the "romana" lamp from the major silver and bronze workshops characterized by sculptures that are very popular at the time, such as Mercury running on the wind, or the Egyptian figure which recalls the Napoleonic campaigns. Oil cruets and sauce boats, ampoules for perfumes and ointment, the Egyptian unguentary vase dated 1500 B.C. – braziers and warmers, learned texts and popular handicrafts show the many uses of oil over the centuries. At the end of the museum a hallway of proverbs and sayings related to olive oil leads the way to a large painting depicting a field of olive trees in the wind, indicating the attention to the landscape which underlined the research leading up to the museum's creation.
